One lap, several different orders.

Reviewed 18 October 2026 · 2026 rules; historical example uses 2024

Qualifying classification records the session outcome. The race grid is a separate published order: penalties, withdrawals and pit-lane starts can change it. Always check which order a table actually describes.

A representative teammate comparison requires both drivers to have an eligible timed attempt in the same session. A missing lap is missing evidence, not a lap with zero time. Session traffic and track evolution still limit the comparison.

On the Austin 2024 page, compare qualifying order with the grid values recorded alongside the race classification.
